Farms & Natural Lands Study

valuing our natural and working lands

Our region is growing and, unfortunately, our growth patterns mean that to accommodate this growth we are consuming land at a rapid rate.

Our ten-county region has over 3 Million acres of Farms and Natural Lands. One Million of those acres are in farmland, the rest is forests, wetlands, parks and residential areas. Only 15% of it is protected in any way -- leaving over 2.5 Million acres at risk.

To understand what is at stake, CRT commissioned The Economic Value of Open Space in the Cumberland Region. This report explores the value -- beyond simple land cost -- of working and natural lands in the region.
