Wilson County Leaders Gather for Day of Collaboration

Wilson County Power of One Gathering

The March 2011 POWER OF ONE Luncheon with Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto brought together over 220 local officials, business owners and community leaders and gave County Mayor Hutto , Lebanon Mayor Phillip Craighead, Mt Juliet Mayor Ed Hagerty and Watertown Mayor Mike Jennings a centralized forum to address the current state of Wilson County. The success of the luncheon, as well as the desire of Leadership Wilson to continue to support and encourage leaders in the community, brought consensus to continue the momentum started in 2011.

On January 20th, 2012 Cumberland Region Tomorrow, The Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee, and Nashville Mayor Karl Dean greeted over 50 delegates representing Wilson County’s POWER OF ONE leadership group. CRT Director and Leadership Wilson POWER OF ONE Committee member John McDearman welcomed and thanked the community leaders representing Lebanon, Mt. Juliet, Watertown and Wilson County. McDearman, explained that the idea grew from previous meetings and discussion over the past year with fellow Wilson County leaders in the private and public sector interested in advancing Wilson County and connecting with regional opportunities.

Mayor Dean, along with CRT Director and Transit Alliance Chair Charles Bone, and Transit Alliance Executive Director Ed Cole welcomed the group in downtown Nashville as they arrived on the Music City Star commuter rail line and thanked them for their vision and effort in being part of a regional dialogue. Cumberland Region Tomorrow, The Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee, and Mayor Dean were asked to greet the delegation and draw a connection to Wilson County’s POWER OF ONE efforts and broader regional collaboration and action that is happening across Middle Tennessee.
Group members then participated in a day-long Leadership Conference facilitated by the Nelson and Sue Andrews Institute for Civic Leadership at Lipscomb University, where they were greeted by CRT Director and Lipscomb Senior Fellow, Sam Hatcher. Hatcher spoke of his pride in being from Wilson County and thanked the group for taking time to work together as one.

The POWER OF ONE Leadership Conference was convened to promote Wilson County, honor and support its leaders, and build stronger relationships among decision makers. Through a day of sessions around the theme POWER OF ONE, county leaders engaged in discussions and group projects designed to benefit the future of Wilson County.
