Three years after Wilson County was created in 1799, a commission of men searched for the location of a county seat. They found a place where a spring flowed to an unnamed creek in the midst of virgin cedar trees. The commission declared that place to be the county seat naming it Lebanon after the biblical land of cedars. The first resident of the town was Neddie Jacobs, a man who was often found entertaining neighbors with his fiddle. Now, residents and tourists can revisit the humble beginnings of Wilson County at "Fiddlers Grove" touring both original and replicated buildings.
Over 200 years, Wilson County has grown into a place that residents can boast of with 3 cities, Lebanon, Mt. Juliet, and Watertown designated "3 Star" communities by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. With a population now over 100,000, Wilson County has attracted new shopping centers, the Nashville Superspeedway, and many other facitilies. At the same time, its most valuable natural attractions have been preserved through Cedars of Lebanon and other parks.
