In 2010, Nashvillians spent an average of 35 hours delayed in rush hour traffic, the 23rd highest rank in the country, according to the 2011 Annual Urban Mobility Report, issued by the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M University.
According to the report, the delay in Nashville consumes an extra 10 gallons of gas per year for each driver. The study estimates that the average consumer will experience an additional three hours of annual delay by 2015, and seven hours by 2020.
The study estimates that congestion cost Nashville $556 million in 2010, the 31st highest total in the United States.
This report, while not surprising to regular area commuters and policy makers, underscores the implications of transportation economic and quality costs while also addressing the need for a mass transit solution that will help take strain off our regional transportation network.
