Robertson County Seeks to Include Incorporated Cities into the Comprehensive Planning Process

Springfield Historic Courthouse Square-Robertson

Robertson County leaders meet with county Mayor Howard Bradley to discuss the creation of a county-wide comprehensive growth plan, which would serve as a road map for future development in the community. Representatives from Springfield, Cedar Hill, Orlinda, Greenbrier, Portland and Coopertown attended the meeting. Bradley is proposing for county and city governments to share the cost of the plan.

The Springfield Planning Director, George James, recommended that the city of Springfield work with the county to develop a comprehensive plan.

“We have so many cities in the county, if we could get together on projects such as road improvements, better access to the interstates, it would help us obtain state funding for these projects.”

Kevin Breeding, City Manager for Orlinda, said that problems his city has experienced also demonstrate the need for a comprehensive growth plan.

CRT encourages county-wide comprehensive plans to include as many jurisdictions as possible. Multi- jurisdiction comprehensive planning helps to avoid costly duplication efforts and creates better overall plans for all jurisdictions involved. CRT worked closely with Maury County leaders in a similar effort that produced comprehensive plans for all municipalities, including the City of Columbia.
