Cumberland Region Tomorrow, was recently awarded the 2011 Tennessee American Planners Association Award for Regional Significance for our quality growth work with local communities in Middle Tennessee.
CRT Executive Director, Bridget Jones announced that, “This award is a reflection on the numerous organizations, people and communities that have decided to make quality growth planning and action a reality in Middle Tennessee.”
CRT bases our work on our Quality Growth Toolbox, released in 2007. In addition to toolbox training, CRT offers technical assistance and consulting for local communities in the ten-county Middle Tennessee region.
“The CRT Quality Growth Toolbox is designed to work with local private and public sector leaders who want to implement quality growth strategies designed to create more economically vibrant, more fiscally sound, and more livable communities,” said Marion Fowlkes, CRT co-chair.
Since releasing the toolbox in 2007, CRT has directly worked with communities in Cheatham, Wilson, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner and Maury County. Currently, CRT is working with the Robertson County government to implement a county-wide comprehensive plan designed to plan for future growth and development. Completion of the Robertson County plan will mark the fourth county to implement comprehensive planning since CRT began its Toolbox work in 2007.
