Davidson County: 2008 Agricultural Economic Profile
Employment in Agriculture and Forestry made up 1.9% of total jobs created in Davidson County in 2008 with 11,124 total jobs in these sectors. Secondary agriculture was the largest job creator with 7,312 jobs or 90% of total agriculture jobs created. Overall, the forestry industry created 2,984 jobs in 2008. Cabinets (664), windows (367) and custom architectural wood manufacturing (449) lead the way in forestry job creation.
The value of Agriculture Outputs totaled $4.6B and was 5.4% of the total Davidson County economy in 2008. There were over $17M worth of primary agricultural products and services produced mainly by tree and plant nurseries ($10M), cattle ($1M) and poultry ($2M). Forty-five percent (45%) of the County’s secondary agricultural outputs consisted of the $2B tobacco manufacturing industry.
The value of Forestry Outputs totaled $619M in 2008. Over $11M worth of wood was processed in local sawmills that created 44 jobs. Secondary forestry output was lead by cabinets, windows and custom architectural wood manufacturing plus stationary wood production for a total of $349M or 56% of total forestry outputs.

- Employment: Average annual jobs, both full and part-time. Not full-time equivalents
- Employee Compensation: Wages, salaries, benefits, and total contributions to Social Security/Medicare
- Proprietor Income: Self-employment income, including salary, benefits and total contributions to Social Security/Medicare
- Other Property Type Income: Dividends, interest, rent, corporate profits, and capital depreciation
- Indirect Business Taxes: All business taxes and fees paid to governments including sales and excise taxes
- Total Value Added: Gross regional product derived from the income paid to the owners of the factors of production in the model year
