Clinic for Regional Collaboration
The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy selected the Cumberland Region of Middle Tennessee as one of two regions in the nation where it would facilitate a Clinic on Regional Collaboration.  The purpose of the Clinic in this region was to create a plan to begin the creation of a Land Use and Transportation Plan.
Prior to the Clinic, representatives from the Lincoln Institute interviewed an array of more than 30 people with some connection to or knowledge of land use and transportation planning in the Cumberland Region. Following the interviews, the Lincoln Institute assessed the current state of the region and logical alternatives for next steps towards acheiving a Land Use and Transportation Plan.

To begin the Clinic, facilitators presented information on collaborative efforts for land use and transportation in other regions around the country along with the conclusions from the prior interviews.  The afternoon of the clinic was a forum intended to gather ideas from regional leaders and conclude what needed to be done in order to create a Plan.

Although no specific action steps were delegated at the meeting, the Clinic was successful because participants realized the importance of discussing regional issues with leaders from surrounding counties with whom they have little contact with.  One conclusion of the meeting was that a regional board would be created from clinic leadership to continue to promote regional collaboration among leaders in the Cumberland Region.
